Book Review: It Ends It With Us By Colleen Hoover by Madiha Fatima

I just finished reading IT ENDS WITH US by ColleenHoover. But to be very honest it will going to be with me forever. I knew that domestic violence and martial rape is not something which don’t happen in West for the women there are more strong, powerful and independent. But I didn’t knew that some of them like here in South Asia are so much bound and helpless to leave their abusive home environment. Whatever the reasons’ differences among both of these women whether its love, children or dependence on their husbands, they are just shit bound to leave.

Here in South Asia, mostly women are unaware of the term marital rape. They even don’t know that they are being raped by their husband as it is considered a sin to refuse to them (just because of lack of true knowledge). Here women are even not allowed to leave their husbands until their death. Because they don’t want to disregard and put shame to their parents’ family. They are so much dependable on their husbands that the thought to leave never occur to them and if it occur by chance or by any miracle, their children became chain in feet. I sometime wonder, why this doesn’t happen with the men when they decide to divorce their wives or just to leave them to rotten in the world of hopelessness and hate.

Anyways, I become so angry at Lilly not to leave Ryle, when he tortured her the second time. And whenever he said sorry to her after every persecution I so wanted to transformed in to the book in the same scene and beg her to leave. Until the last scene, I understood her point. I understood, when we are relying on just LOVE in a relationship, we give them chances upon chances. We keep on trusting them and giving ourselves and others the false justifications just to keep swimming. But we can’t swim in a trap. So we need to break it so that we can reach the shore. And it really needs a courage and valor as strong as steel to break that trap of love. As no trap is as beguiled as a trap of love. It engulfed the person who can’t break it on time like it engulfed Lilly’s mother. So really hats off to Lilly for not letting it engulfed her.

I must admit that Colleen has an ability to make her readers fall in love with her characters. Yes, I am in love with Atlas. Colleen you should right a new story which just roam around Lilly and Atticus. Atlas is a complete opposite to Ryle. I am not considering Ryle as a Villain. I know he has his own conflicts. And in the last scene he was the one I am crying for (I told you, Colleen has the ability to make her readers fall in love with her characters). But for Atlas I always cried whenever he came into a scene. Especially in a second last scene:

“He pulls back to look down at me and when he sees my tears, he brings his hands up to my cheeks. “In the future... if by some miracle you ever find yourself in the position to fall in love again... fall in love with me.”

That’s my most favorite quote in the book. Okay, no I have many:

“There is no such thing as bad people. We’re all just people who sometimes do bad things.”

“All humans make mistakes. What determines a person's character aren't the mistakes we make. It’s how we take those mistakes and turn them into lessons rather than excuses.”

“Just because someone hurts you doesn't mean you can simply stop loving them. It's not a person's actions that hurt the most. It's the love. If there was no love attached to the action, the pain would be a little easier to bear.”

“Naked truths aren’t always pretty.”

“I feel like everyone fakes who they really are, when deep down we're all equal amounts of screwed up. Some of us are just better at hiding it than others.”

“Just because we didn’t end up on the same wave, doesn’t mean we aren’t still a part of the same ocean.”

“In the future. . . if by some miracle you ever find yourself in the position to fall in love again. . . fall in love with me.”

“Sometimes even grown women need their mother’s comfort so we can just take a break from having to be strong all the time.”

“We all have a limit. What we’re willing to put up with before we break. When I married your father, I knew exactly what my limit was. But slowly. . . with every incident. . . my limit was pushed a little more. And a little more. The first time your father hit me, he was immediately sorry. He swore it would never happen again. The second time he hit me, he was even more sorry. The third time it happened, it was more than a hit. It was a beating. And every single time, I took him back. But the fourth time, it was only a slap. And when that happened, I felt relieved. I remember thinking, ‘At least he didn’t beat me this time. This wasn’t so bad.”

Last words:
A must Read book, I bet it will change you as it is the most powerful book of the year.
